In the name of religion
1572, Paris and other French cities. Catholic mobs killed thousands of Huguenot Protestants in the St Bartholomew’s Day massacre. Fact
In Zoroastrianism, the soul is judged after death, and Zoroastrianism describes a crossing where a person’s deeds determine their fate.
Faith and reason
Religion often claims that faith and reason coexist, yet such coexistence is possible only by redefining reason until it no longer threatens belief. Reason is permitted to operate within confined areas such as engineering, medicine, or economics, but never where sacred claims reside. The moment reason approaches matters of god, scripture, or doctrine, it is accused of overreach. This selective permission reveals much. Reason is welcome where it produces results but exiled where it produces doubt.
Quote of the day
“The world holds two classes of men, intelligent men without religion, and religious men without intelligence.” Abu al Ala al Ma arri.
