Weird and Religious

In the name of religion

1692, Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands. Government soldiers killed members of Clan MacDonald after a delayed loyalty oath amid sectarian tension. Though political, it was partly justified as enforcing a Protestant settlement and suppressing rebellion associated with Catholic and Jacobite loyalties.

When truth is no the priority

Religion can have real and sometimes powerful effects on those who embrace it, even though its foundational claims are false. These effects vary according to individual temperament, cultural context, and circumstance, yet they are not imaginary. For those who view life chiefly as a matter of survival, routine, reproduction, and social stability, religion supplies a ready-made structure that carries them from birth to death with minimal friction. It offers answers, order, and reassurance without demanding comprehension. For those who seek truth or an accurate picture of existence, this structure quickly reaches its limits, but for many, truth is not the priority.

Quote of the day

“Religions are all alike, founded upon fables and mythologies.” Thomas Jefferson.
