Weird and Religious

In some ancient Near Eastern traditions, there are references to child sacrifice associated with the god Molech. Texts describe children being passed through fire as part of worship. Later religious writers strongly condemned the practice, but its existence shows how sacrifice could be directed at the most vulnerable.

In the name of religion

2014, Peshawar in Pakistan. Islamist Muslim Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan gunmen attacked a school, killing many children and staff. The group justified the massacre as revenge against the army and part of jihad, claiming even children of soldiers were legitimate targets.

Fact

In the Baháʼí Faith, equality of men and women is taught, and the Baháʼí Faith treats this as a necessary condition for social progress.

Classic question

There are classic questions that believers love to ask, one of them is, how can something come from nothing. It shows nothing but confusion because it relies on an intuitive but incorrect understanding of nothing. In physics, nothing is not an empty box waiting to be filled. It is a complex concept involving fields, energy, and instability. More importantly, religion never solves this problem. It simply relocates it. If something cannot come from nothing, then god cannot come from nothing either. Declaring god eternal does not solve the puzzle. It exempts the preferred answer from the rule imposed on everything else, which is not explanation but special pleading.

Quote of the day

“Religions are all alike, founded upon fables and mythologies.” Thomas Jefferson.

Ask the right question
