In medieval Europe, people sometimes believed that the Devil could not cross running water. Bridges and rivers were therefore seen as spiritual boundaries, and some places were named after supposed encounters with the Devil being tricked at a crossing.

1857, northern India. During the Indian Rebellion, massacres and reprisals occurred on both sides. Religious fears over conversion and defilement played a role. Participants justified violence as defending Islam or Hindu tradition and protecting sacred customs from perceived foreign religious threat.

In Hinduism, spiritual guidance from a teacher known as a guru is often valued, with the guru seen as someone who helps a student understand spiritual teachings, practise discipline, and progress on a chosen path.
Argument from complexity
The argument from complexity is perhaps the most emotionally appealing and the most misunderstood. Nature looks complex, therefore it must have been designed, yet the leap from complexity to design is immediate and unwarranted. Complexity is not evidence of design. It is often the result of simple processes repeated over time. Snowflakes, coastlines, crystals, and galaxies display astonishing complexity without intention. Biology is no different. Evolution by natural selection explains how complexity arises gradually through variation, inheritance, and survival. No foresight is required. No planner is involved. Complexity accumulates because simple systems interacting over long periods generate intricate outcomes.
