Weird and Religious

In some strands of Hindu belief, the universe is created and destroyed in repeating cycles that last billions of years. Time is not linear but cosmic and circular, with countless worlds appearing and vanishing long before modern astronomy spoke of deep time.

In the name of religion

2020, France, Nice. An Islamist extremist killed worshippers in a church. The attacker framed the act as revenge for perceived insults to Islam and justified killing civilians as part of a religious struggle against unbelievers.

Fact

In Islam, remembrance of God through recitation and phrases of praise is common, and Islam uses this practice to keep awareness of God present in daily life.

Good timing

What unites all prophetic figures is not moral insight or supernatural access, but timing. Their revelations conveniently address immediate problems, typically their own. Rules appear when control is needed. Permissions appear when desire conflicts with existing norms. Prohibitions appear when rivals threaten authority. This pattern is so consistent that it ceases to be suspicious and becomes diagnostic. There is no better example than a prophet receiving convenient revelation than Muhammad. Many of the revelation he "received" directly addressed some of his domestic problems such as how long his guests could stay after a meal. Woud a read god be concerned with this?

Quote of the day

“Religion is a by product of fear and ignorance.” Paul Kurtz.

Ask the right question

How can reincarnation fit with the growing human population unless new souls are constantly being created?

Religious Crooks

José de Luz, associated with Brazilian spiritist healing circles, represents a broader pattern of mediums who charge for spiritual surgery and cures, frequently accused by sceptics and medical authorities of exploiting belief for income under religious cover. For more information, google the name. That was just a tiny case in a vast ocean of religious crooks.
