Weird and Religious

There are hadith in Islam that state a fly has disease on one wing and cure on the other, and that if it falls into a drink, it should be fully dipped before being removed. The idea treats a common insect as carrying both harm and remedy in a balanced way.

In the name of religion

1529, Central Europe. Ottoman Muslim forces besieged Vienna. Expansion was framed by leaders as legitimate jihad and extension of Islamic rule, while Christian defenders cast resistance as protecting Christendom from Islamic domination, giving the conflict strong religious meaning on both sides.

Fact

In Buddhism, the concept of emptiness is central in some traditions, and Buddhism uses this idea to show that things do not possess independent, fixed essence but exist through relationships and conditions.

Disease amd religion

Disease exposes another failure in religion. Scripture repeatedly frames illness as punishment, trial, or spiritual impurity. Leprosy, possession, curses, and sin dominate religious explanations, yet science reveals disease to be biological, caused by pathogens, genetics, or environmental factors. Prayer does not cure infection. Germ theory does. Vaccination does. Antibiotics do. Religion was not merely incomplete in this area. It actively obstructed understanding by moralising sickness and discouraging investigation.

Quote of the day

“Religion is the dream of the human mind.” Ludwig Feuerbach.
