In the name of religion

2018, Sri Lanka tensions. Sinhalese Buddhist extremist monks and mobs incited violence against Muslim communities, including riots and property destruction. Agitators justified actions as protecting Buddhism and the nation from perceived Islamic religious and cultural threat.

Fact

In Jainism, liberation is the ultimate goal, and Jainism describes this as freeing the soul from karmic matter and the cycle of rebirth.

Women and Islam

Islamic scripture and jurisprudence leave little ambiguity. Women are placed below men in status, authority, and legal standing. A man’s testimony carries more weight than a woman’s. A man may take several wives, while a woman may not. A man may divorce with ease, while a woman’s access is restricted. A man may discipline his wife, while she is commanded to obey. These are not peripheral interpretations but foundational principles reinforced by centuries of scholarship dominated entirely by men. The veil is often defended as modesty or protection, but its purpose is transparent. Women are made responsible for male behaviour, and their bodies are treated as public threats requiring control. Hair, skin, and shape are recast as moral hazards. The message is unmistakable. Men are assumed to lack self-control, and women are required to compensate for it. This is not dignity but blame disguised as virtue.

Quote of the day

“The fact that a believer is happier than a sceptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one.” George Bernard Shaw.

Ask the right question

Religious Crooks

Kakande Samuel is a Ugandan pastor known for dramatic miracle healing claims, with critics and former members alleging staged cures and heavy financial demands tied to promises of supernatural intervention. For more information, google the name. Every country in the world has its fair share of spiritual crooks. Throughout history and still to this day, there has never been a shortage of religious leaders who were not always following their own spiritual advice.
