Weird and Religious

In ancient Egypt, some gods were shown with animal heads because qualities of animals were thought to reflect divine traits. A falcon head suggested sharp sight and power, while a jackal head linked a god with cemeteries and the desert. The image was not symbolic art in the modern sense but a literal way of showing a god’s nature.

In the name of religion

1975, Lebanon civil war phase. Christian and Muslim militias attacked civilian neighbourhoods in sectarian cleansing campaigns. Leaders justified operations as protecting their religious communities, defending holy identity, and preventing domination by rival faith based factions.

Fact

In Hinduism, many gods and goddesses are worshipped, and these deities are commonly understood as different expressions or aspects of the one ultimate reality, allowing a wide range of devotional practices.

Age Does Not Matter

There is nothing sacred about an idea simply because it is old or popular. Age does not confer truth and numbers do not confer accuracy. Religion has been protected by both. It has also benefited from the understandable human reluctance to confront uncomfortable conclusions. Letting go of gods feels like loss because religion tied itself to meaning, morality, and identity. It was a theft, not a gift. Meaning does not vanish when gods do. Morality does not collapse. Identity does not dissolve. What disappears is the illusion that these things were ever supplied from outside humanity.

Quote of the day

“Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear.” Bertrand Russell.

Ask the right question
