In the name of religion

2005 to 2014, northern Nigeria. Boko Haram carried out bombings, massacres, and mass kidnappings, including schoolgirls. The group justified violence as rejecting Western education, enforcing strict Islam, and punishing Muslims and Christians seen as collaborators, promising divine approval for warfare.

Fact

In Judaism, the covenant is central, and Judaism teaches that a special relationship exists between God and the people of Israel.

From Death to God

God emerges naturally from the fear of death. A god answers the most frightening questions without requiring evidence. Why did this person die? Because someone decided it. What happens next? Something better. Why is the world unfair? Because justice comes later. Why do bad things happen to good people? Because this life is not the point. These answers are emotionally powerful precisely because they cannot be tested and therefore cannot fail. When fear is the problem, truth is optional; comfort is enough.

Quote of the day

“Religion is based on dogma and belief, whereas science is based on doubt and questioning.” Richard Dawkins.

Ask the right question

Why would a god design a universe 13.8 billion years old and then focus moral concern on a tiny slice of recent human history?

Religious Crooks

Father Yod, born James Baker, led the Source Family in the United States, presenting himself as a spiritual master while running businesses staffed by followers, with accounts describing communal control of members’ earnings and assets. For more information, google the name. Every country in the world has its fair share of spiritual crooks.
