Weird and Religious

In parts of Southeast Asia, spirit houses are built outside homes or businesses to give local spirits a place to live. Offerings of food, drinks, or incense are made so the spirits do not cause trouble, creating a parallel unseen household beside the human one.

In the name of religion

1991, Algeria civil conflict. Islamist groups targeted civilians, intellectuals, and foreigners during insurgency. Violence was justified as jihad to overthrow a secular state, enforce Islamic rule, and punish those seen as enemies of Islam.

Fact

In Judaism, the commandments, often counted as 613 mitzvot, guide religious and ethical life, and Judaism sees these as obligations shaping daily conduct.

The purpose of life

Religion claims it knows the purpose of life. From the scientific perspective, life possesses no built-in purpose. Humans are products of natural processes that operate without intention or foresight, and evolution explains how life changes and persists, not why it should exist at all. When perspective widens beyond this planet, even the idea of human centrality collapses. We occupy a small corner of an ordinary galaxy in a universe that gives no sign of caring whether we exist or vanish. This understanding is not nihilism but honesty, for it accepts what evidence reveals rather than what comfort desires.

Quote of the day

“Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet.” Napoleon Bonaparte.

Ask the right question

If humans once lived for hundreds of years as some traditions claim, where is the biological evidence that such lifespans were ever possible?

Religious Crooks
