Some Buddhist traditions describe entire realms of existence where beings suffer extreme conditions for vast periods because of past actions. These hell realms are not eternal but can last longer than the entire span of human civilisation.

2014, Central African Republic. Christian anti Balaka militias and Muslim Seleka factions attacked civilians. Fighters justified killings as defence of Christian or Muslim communities, turning political collapse into religiously framed communal warfare.

Faith to the rescue
The elevation of faith solves a fundamental problem for religion. Religious claims are extraordinary, unverifiable, and frequently contradicted by observation. If evidence were the standard, belief would collapse swiftly. Faith removes this danger by redefining belief without proof as virtue rather than weakness. Doubt becomes failure. Questioning becomes arrogance. Obedience becomes wisdom. This inversion is deliberate, for a system built on unsupported claims cannot withstand scrutiny, so it teaches its followers to distrust scrutiny itself.
