Weird and Religious

Some Islamic traditions say that when a person dies and is buried, two angels named Munkar and Nakir come into the grave to question the dead person. The grave becomes a kind of interview room where answers determine comfort or distress until the final judgement.

In the name of religion

1947, Punjab and Bengal during the Partition of India. Mass killings, abductions, and forced migration accompanied the creation of India and Pakistan. Mobs and militias justified attacks as defending Sikh, Hindu, or Muslim communities, avenging wrongs, and securing territory for their religious group.

Fact

In Buddhism, right speech is important, as Buddhism teaches avoiding lies, harsh words, gossip, and pointless talk in favour of truthful and beneficial communication.

Redefining God

Faced with contradictions, scientific refutation, and moral embarrassment, many modern believers no longer defend the god their scriptures describe. They quietly replace him. God becomes energy, love, consciousness, the universe, the ground of being, or something intentionally undefined. By redefining god into abstraction, believers quietly concede the central argument against religion. They admit that the god of scripture cannot survive scrutiny. They abandon miracles, interventions, and divine law while insisting that belief remains intact. What survives is not religion in any meaningful sense. It is sentiment disguised as theology. This move also removes accountability. A vague god cannot be responsible for suffering or injustice. He cannot be blamed for harmful commands or oppressive rules. He has no opinions, so he cannot be accused of cruelty. This is convenient but costly, for a god without character cannot ground morality, offer guidance, or justify obedience. He becomes irrelevant.

Quote of the day

“The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.” Richard Francis Burton.

Ask the right question

If a god created the laws of logic, could that god make contradictions true, and if not, is logic independent of god?

Religious Crooks

Sun Myung Moon’s case centres more on finances, so for sexual misconduct specifically take Mitsuo Matayoshi out and include T. B. Joshua’s associate Timothy Omotoso, a Nigerian pastor in South Africa, charged with multiple sexual offences, with prosecutors alleging that religious authority was used to recruit and control victims. For more information, google the name. Today we took a look at yet another religious crook but there are hundreds of thousands of them. You could spend a lifetime researching the topic.
