Weird and Religious

In Japan, there are Buddhist temples that hold memorial services for broken objects such as needles and even dolls. The idea is that objects have a kind of spiritual presence, and throwing them away without respect could be improper. Old dolls are sometimes burned in rituals rather than discarded as rubbish.

In the name of religion

2016, Dhaka in Bangladesh. Islamist Muslim militants attacked a cafe, killing hostages including foreigners. Attackers declared allegiance to Islamic State and justified the act as jihad, targeting those labelled non believers and enemies of Islam.

Fact

In Christianity, worship often takes place in community, and Christianity gathers believers for teaching, prayer, singing, and shared rituals.

Meaning beyond religion

Recognising that humanity is not cosmically special unsettles many people, yet it also offers liberation. Once the assumption of centrality falls away, the need for divine stories that elevate humanity above everything else disappears with it. Species have risen and fallen before, and extinction is not punishment but process. It is the natural result of change in a universe indifferent to survival. Humanity is already advancing its own vulnerability through conflict, greed, and shortsightedness, which makes the abandonment of false purpose more urgent than ever. Meaning does not vanish when gods do. It relocates into the human sphere, where purpose becomes something created through action rather than granted by authority. Meaning arises from reducing suffering, expanding understanding, protecting the future, and cooperating beyond tribe and belief. None of these goals require cosmic endorsement. They require awareness, compassion, and responsibility.

Quote of the day

“I count religion but a childish toy, and hold there is no sin but ignorance.” Christopher Marlowe.

Ask the right question

Why are supernatural claims from ancient times treated as sacred history while modern ones are labelled superstition?

Religious Crooks

Benny Hinn is a televangelist known for large healing crusades and prosperity preaching, long criticised for lavish lifestyle and opaque ministry finances, with investigations questioning how donated funds were used. For more information, google the name. Every country in the world has its fair share of spiritual crooks. History tells us that wherever fools gathered, there was always a religious crook to take advantage of them. The best way to stop the crooks is not to be a fool.
