Weird and Religious

There is a belief in Islam that every human being has a personal jinn companion called a qarin. This unseen being is said to whisper suggestions and temptations throughout a person’s life. The idea presents inner thoughts and impulses as partly influenced by an invisible parallel creature.

In the name of religion

2021, Afghanistan after Taliban takeover. Islamist Muslim Taliban enforced strict religious codes, with reports of reprisals and executions. The Taliban justified actions as implementing Islamic law, preserving moral order, and eliminating corruption and un-Islamic behaviour.

Fact

In Christianity, judgement is affirmed, and Christianity teaches that human lives will ultimately be evaluated in relation to God’s standards.

Personal experience and truth

The idea of subjective truth is often defended as a recognition of personal experience, but it becomes dangerous the moment it leaves the private realm and enters public decision-making. A person may prefer chocolate over vanilla, and no harm follows from that preference. Problems arise when subjective belief is treated as equivalent to objective fact in matters that affect others. Claims about health, history, morality, or reality itself cannot be resolved by personal feeling without consequences. Religion collapses this boundary deliberately. It takes unverifiable claims and demands public obedience to them.

Quote of the day

“The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.” Richard Francis Burton.

Ask the right question

If a prophet speaks for god, how can ordinary people reliably distinguish a true prophet from a deluded or manipulative one?

Religious Crooks

Charles Taze Russell was a founder of the Bible Student movement that led to Jehovah’s Witnesses, promoting prophetic timelines and religious publications while facing court disputes and criticism in his lifetime over finances, business practices, and claims about his background. For more information, google the name. Every country in the world has its fair share of spiritual crooks. Religion is supposed to bring morality but it also seem to bring a lot of crooks who take advantage of people.
