Weird and Religious
In parts of medieval Europe, people believed in “ordeals” as a way to let God decide guilt. An accused person might carry a red hot iron or plunge a hand into boiling water. If the wound healed cleanly, that was taken as proof of innocence.

In the name of religion
1804, Haiti. During the revolution, violence included killings of French settlers. While largely anti colonial, some rebels drew on Vodou religious elements and spiritual authority, framing struggle as divinely supported liberation from Christian slaveholders and oppressive religious order.
Fact
In Sikhism, honest work is valued, and Sikhism encourages earning a living through fair effort rather than exploitation.
Ignorant but not stupid
The ignorant believers are not stupid. They are conditioned. They are taught that understanding is optional and obedience is essential. This conditioning is most effective when reinforced socially, emotionally, and morally. Leaving belief then feels like betrayal rather than correction. Religion does not collapse when people ask hard questions. It collapses when they read the answers for themselves. The continued survival of belief is therefore not a mystery. It is the predictable result of a system that thrives on partial knowledge, controlled interpretation, and the quiet fear that full understanding might cost too much.
Quote of the day
“Faith is the great cop out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence.” Richard Dawkins.
