In the name of religion

1921, Malabar region in India. The Moplah Rebellion saw Muslim peasants attack Hindu landlords and others amid anti colonial unrest. Some rebels framed actions as religious struggle, invoking jihad language, while authorities and victims viewed violence as sectarian aggression.

Fact

In Hinduism, Brahman is the name for ultimate reality, understood as the underlying spiritual essence behind everything that exists, beyond all forms and names.

Scriptures age badly

In sacredt texts, moral obscenity is aggressively defended. Slavery is permitted. Women are treated as property. Violence is sanctified. Genocide is justified. Children are punished for the actions of their parents. Dissent is condemned. Obedience is prized over compassion. These are not fringe passages, they are central to the scriptures. When confronted, defenders claim morality was different back then. That admission alone destroys the claim of divine authorship. A timeless moral authority does not age badly but human law does.

Ann Lee, leader of the Shakers, claimed divine visions and authority, requiring followers to surrender property and live communally, with critics describing the system as one where religious devotion translated into total economic control. Religion is supposed to bring morality but it also seem to bring a lot of crooks who take advantage of people.
