In the name of religion

1921, Malabar region in India. The Moplah Rebellion saw Muslim peasants attack Hindu landlords and others amid anti colonial unrest. Some rebels framed actions as religious struggle, invoking jihad language, while authorities and victims viewed violence as sectarian aggression.

Fact

In Christianity, salvation means being reconciled with God, and Christianity presents this as made possible through the life and work of Jesus Christ.

The ignorant Muslim

Islam provides a particularly clear case study of believers not knowing their own religion. Many Muslims proudly declare the Qur’an to be perfect, eternal, and unmatched, yet they have never read it in a language they understand. Large numbers cannot read Arabic at all. They recite sounds without meaning and are taught that the act itself is virtuous. Understanding becomes secondary. Submission is primary. This is not a flaw in the system. It is the system working as intended.
