In the name of religion

2017, Marawi in the Philippines. Islamist Muslim militants seized parts of the city, leading to months of fighting. The group justified the uprising as establishing an Islamic caliphate in Southeast Asia, enforcing Islamic rule, and resisting a government seen as illegitimate.

Fact

In Christianity, the Holy Spirit is understood as active in believers, and Christianity describes this presence as guiding, strengthening, and transforming individuals.

Ignorant but not stupid

The ignorant believers are not stupid. They are conditioned. They are taught that understanding is optional and obedience is essential. This conditioning is most effective when reinforced socially, emotionally, and morally. Leaving belief then feels like betrayal rather than correction. Religion does not collapse when people ask hard questions. It collapses when they read the answers for themselves. The continued survival of belief is therefore not a mystery. It is the predictable result of a system that thrives on partial knowledge, controlled interpretation, and the quiet fear that full understanding might cost too much.

Quote of the day

“The invisible and the non existent look very much alike.” Delos B. McKown.
